There are many great art museums with extraordinary collections in New York and some visitors expect to learn a lot from these art museums. However, many visitors are not satisfied with their learning experience at these art museums.
By interviewing art museum visitors and reading literature related to museum education, we found that this problem was caused by:
Reason 1: the artwork tends to lack categorization and supporting information.
Reason 2: there is low engagement with the artwork; usually visitors only glance at the artwork and forget about it very soon.
Reason 3: there is a lack of interaction among visitors; visitors usually don't have an opportunity to share information/ideas with each other.
Based on interviews and research findings, I created 6 personas including 5 target users and 1 non-user.

We designed a mobile application that enhances the art museum experience through the telling and sharing of stories.
Feature 1: Artwork Lists
Categorized the artwork by themes which allowed visitors to be able to click on the artwork itself to view supporting information.
Feature 2: Prompts & Stories
Provided users prompts about the artwork and allowed visitors to share their stories for those prompts to increase user's engagement with the artwork.
Feature 3: Sharing & Commenting
Interactions amongst visitors increased when they share stories and make comments through the app.
